Information on Ponza

In 1956, Carlo Fontana was asked to prepare a short article, compounded by his trademark sketches, on the island of Ponza, which had become one of his most frequent subjects for drawings, paintings, and extemporary notes written on his inseparable booklets.

The result was three pages on the ‘Wagons-Lits’ magazine, which during the summer of 1956 could be found in each sleeper cabin of the night trains crossing Italy. Only two of Carlo’s sketches made the final copy, as the publisher urged for the addition of several black and white photos. This article, in Italian, is one of the very few writings that the painter had published:  both his love of the island, and his gently sarcasm can be appreciated in it.
