In 1934 one of the most important events was meeting Elena Valenziani, a girl 14 years his junior and future second wife. In the following years, the passion for drawing and painting caught him again; the mature years were marked by the birth of a daughter, Anna, by the second World War in Libya – again, after seven months at the front in the desert, he was wounded and repatriated in 1940 – and the birth of their second child, Luca, in 1943.
